Full-Time Agency Back-Up Care Babysitter

As an babysitter employed by The Nanny Loft, you'll have the chance to work with a variety of families through our Corporate Backup Care partnership, caring for their children when their original childcare arrangements fall through. This role is perfect for those who are in need of a flexible work schedule and want to help families in need. 

Job Summary:

We are seeking dependable, flexible, and compassionate full-time sitters to provide childcare, assist with household tasks occasionally, and offer support to families in urgent need through the Corporate Backup Care portal. Shift requests will come in and sitters can choose whether or not to accept them, working on-call or as needed to ensure a work-life balance and self-determined schedule of 30-40 hours. Corporate Backup Care shifts typically last the extent of the workday, thus we prefer candidates that have entire day availability (for example, your availability might be all day Mondays and Thursdays). The chosen candidates will demonstrate strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for providing exceptional childcare and assistance. 

This position entails working with families in the Lehigh Valley that have been screened by the corporate back-up care company and in situations when a family’s usual childcare arrangements are not available. Therefore, the sitter would be entering a home for the first time without meeting the family and there is the risk of having to care for sick and/or contagious children.

Responsibilities:

1. Flexibility and Availability:

-Be available to work in different locations within the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas as required.

-Be adaptable to varying schedules and able to work on short notice

-Be willing to work evenings, weekends, and overnights according to families' needs

-Be open to assisting with household tasks, including chores, errands, and projects as needed

-Reliably and predictably attending work and being punctual.

2. Childcare and Supervision:

-Provide high-quality care for children of all ages, ensuring their safety and well-being

-Create a nurturing and stimulating environment that fosters children's social, emotional, and cognitive development

-Follow families' guidelines and routines, including meal preparation, nap times, playtime, and homework assistance

-Engage children in age-appropriate activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, educational games, and outdoor play

-Maintain cleanliness and organization within the household, including tidying up, laundry, and light cleaning duties

-Help with basic meal preparation, including chopping vegetables, cooking simple dishes, and following recipes

-Disciplining the child(ren) according to the family’s preferred parenting style.

-Administering medicine with parents’ consent, if necessary.

-Safely and legally operating a motor vehicle to carpool, or drive children to school, activities, medical appointments, playdates or run errands. Performing other duties as assigned by the family or agency.

3. Effective Communication:

Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians

Keep accurate records of daily activities, meals, medications, and incidents to communicate information to families

Communicate effectively with children, ensuring comprehension and facilitating positive interactions

Qualifications:

-Have a High School Diploma, GED or suitable equivalent experience.

-Be at least 18 years of age.

-Be legally authorized to work in the United States.

-Successful completion of Mandated Reporter Training.

-Successful completion of, or willingness to successfully complete car seat safety training prior to start date.

-Background check demonstrating suitability for this position caring for young children without supervision

-Prior experience in childcare is preferred

-Reliable means of transportation 

-Demonstrated flexibility in adjusting to various work schedules and sudden changes

-Valid and clean driver's license and car insurance

-Ability to provide proof of current vaccinations including but not limited to Td or Tdap, MMR, HepA, HepB, PCV, influenza

-Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with families and children

-Ability to multitask and prioritize duties effectively

-Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt quickly to unexpected situations

-Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

-Valid CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain or renew them.

-Proficient knowledge of home safety.

-Possess sound moral character and kind disposition suitable for caring for children of all ages without supervision.

Working Conditions:

-This position requires a high level of flexibility and adaptability. 

-The individual may work in various households, adapting to different routines, environments, and household dynamics. 

-The work hours will be irregular and dependent on families' needs. 

-The individual may be job-related physical tasks inherent in the care of young children, including: the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, engage in physical play at floor level, move quickly to ensure child safety, navigate the physical environment of the home and child play areas safely and effectively, possess the energy to physically and mentally engage with a young child throughout the workday.
